Flirting At Work: Is it Ok?
How does one start flirting with an officemate? A flirty wink, a meaningful smile, and double-meaning words are just some of the simple ways to flirt with a co-worker. A little flirting wouldn’t hurt; it’s fun and harmless. But is it really a-Ok to flirt with a co-worker?
Admit it or not, every person who is working always finds that someone to eye for. Flirtation with a coworker can and do happen, don’t try to deny that. While companies prohibit having an affair with a co-worker, many still flirt with his or her colleagues. There are actually different types of office flirting, and some choose to take it to the next level.
Also known as Corporate Flirting, flirting with someone from work starts even with a conversation- whether on IM or personal, in a meeting, or even those who are together in the project. While some flirting moves can be sexually harassing, others still choose to flirt just for the fun of it. And when it comes to behavior, it is best to watch the body language while flirting with a coworker. Action speaks louder than words and body language is just one of the best ways to tell if someone is flirting, especially when at work.
Flirting at work with someone who is at your same level or rank is still quite acceptable. But no one should ever flirt with his or her superior, as this brings trouble for the one who is inferior, if not both. Flirting with your boss may lead to the worse of office flirting and dating- spreading rumors, special treatments, even termination.
When flirting with a coworker, both must be discreet. It is important to do your job when it’s time to work and not flirt because once flirting affects your production at work, it will put both of you for a suspension or worse, termination. It is also best to avoid confrontation with other people at work. Having a different shift schedule also helps avoid the rumor and conflicts.
Moreover, when flirting gets too far, and if it’s already getting sexually harassing, it is best to talk to the HR department regarding the matter so the case will be discussed. You should also be prepared and careful when answering questions especially when there is a company rule against dating an officemate. On the other hand, make sure that when you flirt, you do it on your own time and not during office hours when both you and your coworker decided to take it to the next level.
Too much flirting during work time causes distractions and low productivity. This is exactly one of the reasons many corporations prohibit office romance. However, if flirting is done after office hours then maybe dating someone from your office isn’t so bad after all.
Flirting at work isn’t a crime. After all, meeting and flirting (a little) with someone from an office helps make relationships last longer. But be careful, everyone who does flirting with his or her coworker must remain professional as possible… whatever it takes.
